Regular visitors to Vital Luton Town may have seen, yesterday, we ran an article that covered a controversial subject.

Our article – which-luton-town-players-would-you-sell-to-raise-funds-for-a-striker – covered the subject of which players should be sacrificed (sold) to generate funds to bring in that striker Luton so desperately need.

In the comments that freely flowed, after the article was published, the names of two players appeared more than once – George Moncur and Ryan Tunnicliffe, neither of whom have been first-team regulars since Nathan Jones returned.

However, Moncur has, it would seem, knuckled down and has been a starter in the last two Championship games and, on Saturday, was the scorer of the Hatters goal.

But, according to the local media publicationLuton Today, Moncur, when the summer transfer window was open, had the opportunity to leave Kenilworth Road with our source publishing the following quotes attributed to Nathan Jones about the player:

“George Moncur had an opportunity to leave in the window, and we said to him, ‘you can go back to League One and get promoted, and then come here, but you have to learn, you have to get better as a player, as sooner or later, someone’s got to get you by the scruff of the neck and say this is what you need to do to be a top Championship player.

“He’s now taking it on board, the penny seems to have dropped for him, and he’s a great kid.

“I bought him here, even though he signed after I left, I bought him here, that was lined up, so I know what he can do and he’s showing that.”

It is an interesting piece of dialogue and the inference is there that Moncur could be on the way to redeeming himself after taking heed of Nathan’s advice.

But what about Ryan Tunnicliffe?

It seems that Ryan was faced with a similar choice, with Nathan, as reported by the same source, remarking about the player:

“Ryan Tunnicliffe had an opportunity to go to a wonderful football club and didn’t, he wanted to stay, wants to fight, he believes in what we do here.

“We’re delighted with that, because we want to achieve something and we’re going to need a strong squad to do that.”

Yes, we do, but that old question of raising funds to buy a striker still has to be answered.

As an inquisitive person, I would love to know who were the two clubs that were interested in Moncur and Tunnicliffe, has anyone any ideas?

Who Would You Rather Luton Keep?

George Moncur!

Ryan Tunnicliffe!

Both!

Both!

Neither!

Neither!

Hi mh, first off regarding moncur an tunnicliffe it is true both could have left the club. But in these days of money counts loyalty counts for more as far as I’m concerned. Therefore I welcome them with open arms. We are going to need every player we’ve got if injuries strike in the next month or so. An it may well happen. With a small squad I would rather have a lesser player giving his all than a money grabber. As for the contraversy caused by my question lol for a hyperthetical question why did people get so het up lol. My final answer was the only logical solution to the problem considering the size of our squad an the cost of a player the calibre of which we need

loyalty is a trait that I also admire. As for the hypothetical question, i thought the response was tremendous, most of the comments left were positive and only a few negative but it served its purpose and I may do a follow-up article later.

Hi mh & chris, loved some of the responses, but some people don’t read comments fully or realise that we on here are only voicing our opinions…

  • Alan says:

Bloody right, he is lump…also None of us said we wanted sluga to go, but if big money offer came, in our position, it’s got to be looked at….

Hi mh an Alan, so after this leaked out, a Mr plummer left some comments on our discussion about who we would sell I don’t know what he was on lol but it made me laugh sell half the players seemed to be his thinking as their not good enough an buy better players I couldn’t make it up lol
