The Danny Hylton Situation Could Be Just The Tip Of The Iceberg As Far Luton Town Supporters Are Concerned

Last week, here on Vital Luton Town, we covered the possibility that a Kenilworth Road favourite could be heading for the exit at the end of the season.

Our article – Luton Town Must Make Their Minds Up Over The Future Of This Striker = covered the fact that Danny Hylton has yet to be offered a new deal with his current one expiring soon.

Using our poll facility to gauge your opinion and asking the question:

Should Luton Town Offer Danny Hylton A New Contract?

we found that 79% believed the striker should be given a new deal, with 14% thinking otherwise and 7% sat on the fence.

But, following the publishing of our article, several interesting comments were left by those who frequent the site, two of which I’ve reproduced below as they provide a decent basis for discussion.

The first, courtesy of Garstang Hatter, who remarked:

“Given that “everything that moves is for sale” and we got rid of our manager and coaching staff to cut costs, I would expect all of our out-of-contract players to be departing the club to further reduce our costs. There is a much bigger picture here than just DH, much as we all appreciate and will remember what he has done for the club.”

And the second coming from Chris Winter who remarked:

“I think that it will come down to finishing the season whenever that is. And then apart from 5 or 6 currently in contract. I foresee a complete clear out of players and a squad of maybe 19 or 20 first team players and with a few under 23 players remaining. This will be all the club will be able to afford. New recruits will be on lower wages and there will be a plethora of out of work players looking for a new club desperate for work.”

Are Luton Town, once again, on the cusp of mounting a financial survival campaign?

Courtesy of this damned COVID-19 pandemic, is the great work carried out in recent years set to be decimated?

Could the building of Power Court be, subsequently compromised?

Let’s get a healthy debate going and see what your opinions on the questions raised are.
