We are at the time of the year when contracts start to run down and crucial decisions about retaining players have to be made.

Unfortunately, the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, whereby finances are severely stretched, can make these decisions very difficult.

At the end of next month, a Hatters hero finds himself out of contract and could leave the club.

The hero in question being none other than Danny Hylton.

So far, this season, the Hatters support have not seen the best of Hylton with the player being restricted to just two appearances, courtesy of being injured and not being given a chance by the axed Graeme Jones.

However, we’re perfectly aware of just what the 31-year-old has done for the club.

Ahead of this season, the striker has scored a very impressive 58 goals in 118 appearances.

It is fair to say that Danny is more than quite capable of putting the ball in the net.

With our Championship status still unknown, the Luton hierarchy might be waiting for that to be determined.

If the Hatters are relegated, then Hylton would surely be a great asset with Luton back in League One.

But what are your feelings on the subject matter?

Should Danny be given a new contract or is it time to say goodbye?

Given that “everything that moves is for sale” and we got rid of our manager and coaching staff to cut costs, I would expect all of our out-of-contract players to be departing the club to further reduce our costs. There is a much bigger picture here than just DH, much as we all appreciate and will remember what he has done for the club

Hi mh, I think that it will come down to finishing the season whenever that is. And then apart from 5 or 6 currently in contract. I forsee a complete clear out of players an a squad of maybe 19 or 20 first team players an with a few under 23 players remaining. This will be all the club will be able to afford. New recruits will be on lower wages an there will be a plethora of out of work players looking for a new club desperate for work..
