More Sunday Morning Blues For Luton Town Supporters

It’s another morning after the night before.

It’s a similar scenario, waking up and the realisation hitting you that the Hatters have lost another Championship game, this time at home to Cardiff City.

The scenario of Luton Town making a swift return to League One after just one season in the Championship is looking more likely by the day.

The latest defeat leaves the Hatters 9 points adrift of safety but that, in reality, considering our appalling difference, is 10 points.

It is a significant gap considering Luton have only amassed 24 points all season. Suddenly the predicted total of 44 points to achieve safety looks a heck of a way off.

Getting a result against Cardiff City was seen as essential if the Hatters Championship status was to be maintained come the end of the season but once again we’re pondering over – what if?

The Hatters had more of the possession but it really counts for nothing if there is no end result. Chances were few and far between and, as has so often been the case this season, when they presented themselves Luton were not clinical enough.

Sat on the bench, Graeme Jones must have been as frustrated as the rest of us and in his post-match interview, as reported by The BBC, he spoke about the possession, the hard work and those missed chances that came along so infrequently, remarking:

“We out-possessed them, we created more chances than them, and the boys gave absolutely everything they have got.

“The game boils down to two moments where Tomlin, he doesn’t hope to score, he makes sure he can score.

“We had a really good opportunity – an incredible one-v-one – and you have to take them if you’re going to win the game and we didn’t.”

When ‘Lady Luck’ isn’t looking down and smiling, this game of ours we all love can be a hugely frustrating experience, what I wouldn’t give for a game where the Hatters have less possession than the opposition and are constantly on the back-foot but manage to keep a clean-sheet before snatching a late winner with our only real clear-cut chance of the game, now wouldn’t that be quite something!
