Luton – Well This Deal Has Got Me Puzzled

Sometimes, in the January transfer window, a piece of tittle-tattle emerges that draws a gasp from those that read it.

Recently, here at Vital Luton, we ran an article relating to Luton’s apparent interest in the Barnsley goalkeeper, Jack Walton – luton-linked-with-signing-a-new-keeper.

Today, several news sources including Football Insider 24/7 are inferring that the deal to sign Walton, on a permanent basis, has now been all but done.

However, there is a twist in the tale.

In my original article – luton-linked-with-signing-a-new-keeper – I asked four questions, the last of which was:

“Fourthly, what would this mean for the future of Harry Isted?”

Well, the twist in the tale is that, as part of the Walton deal, Isted will be moving to Oakwell, on loan for the remainder of the season, to replace Walton as the Barnsley #2 keeper.

Which brings me back to a point several, including myself, have been asking for weeks, namely, surely the reason for bringing in another keeper was to prevent a similar scenario to last season when we had to use the emergency loan system to secure the services of a keeper as ours were injured.

Also, you cannot help but feel for Harry Isted, it seems, to me, his time at Kenilworth Road is all but up, even if, when called upon, he has never let the Haters down.

Lastly, with Walton joining on a permanent basis and with James Shea on the comeback road, is this an indication Ethan Horvath won’t be joining us, on a permanent basis, in the summer?

Please feel free to have your say on the keeper situation in the comment facility beneath this article.

Took the words out of my mouth… 4 permanent keepers, best performer is a loan we haven’t activated purchase on… 2 coming back in summer for a last man standing fight to the first team…
Seems the most complicated way of doing things.

I would imagine there is no chance or there was never any chance of horvath signing permanently. Wages or out-priced maybe. As for harry, don’t get that bit…..

      • Chris winter says:

Hi Alan, we certainly can’t afford horvath’s £21,000 a week like you I don’t see Walton as any better than isted or how much longer shea is going to be out or the fact at the moment we still only have 2 keepers it’s utter madness. I can only assume the last managment an this one don’t rate isted.

  • Billy says:

It would be handy if any of them could play in the back four

  • Alan says:

Shea is getting there. I would predict he will be close 6/8 weeks as it stands, as long as there are no relapses.

    • Mad Hatter says:

      Is Glen Rea still around?

    • Chris winter says:

Exactly Alan, even with no relapse shea is unlikely to feature until the season. Is almost over if that’s right I just don’t see any sense to this unless the management does not want isted.

  • Graham Clark says:

Where in all this is a central defender that we been wanting since the start of the season. We desperately need surly the goal keeper situation could have waited till the end of season

  • Alan says:

Im hearing, Walton is seen as horvaths replacement at the end of his loan. Barnsley wanted isted as cover as part of the deal. Its not necessarily that isted will be gone long term. Walton is known to many here and Edwards from England under 18s. As for the defence situation. There is still 24+ hours to go. Plus its supporters that have said we need a central defender not necessarily the management team. Watch this space

  • Mick says:

Macey is at Portsmouth on loan isn’t he. After this season and is his loan is over will he still be a Luton player, or is it a loan with a permanent move to follow.

  • Alan says:

    Macey will be moved on.

  • jimbo says:

have to trust r.e.’s previous knowledge of walton. COYH.

  • Alan says:

Many on here want to see young players at least on the bench, so what is the difference if a youth goalkeeper has to be a sub…….

  • jimbo says:

alan, i would like young players to be given a chance, what are your thoughts on giving them a chance. COYH.
