Two consecutive 5-1 defeats, against Manchester City (a) and Brentford (h), have hampered our chances of staving off relegation.

It is fair to say that if the Hatters are to retain their Premier League status, in our last four fixtures, we need a dramatic upturn in form.

There is no room for error, no room for a defeat, otherwise we are doomed.

We had hoped that the return, from injury, of key players would improve our chances of pulling off something that now looks improbable, namely survival.

With so much at stake, Luton Town gave one of, if not the, poorest displays of the season and it was a glum Rob Edwards that faced the media after this demoralising defeat, remarking, as reported by the BBC:

“Brentford were very good and we were poor. They deserved to win the game. In spells in the first half, it looked a very even game. We had moments. It’s all ifs buts and maybes. We didn’t show enough, certainly in the second half.”

Indeed we did not and the support, despite doing their utmost to inspire the team, could see that and I think it is the first time this season that supporters flooded out of the ground before the final whistle.

Continuing, Rob added:

“We’re fighting for our lives to stay in the Premier League. It shouldn’t be hard to be motivated. It’s a tough day.”

Was motivation a problem or was it a combination of things?

My thoughts are that Rob took a gamble with Osho and Lokonga, a gamble that didn’t come off, but would we have been complaining if it had of come off?

Life is all about taking risks is it not?

Continuing, Rob further added:

“Our supporters are incredible, I’m sorry they had to go through that. We owe them a performance now.”

I wouldn’t argue with that Rob, the fight to stay up goes on and if those slim hopes of doing so are to be realised, then that performance must come next weekend, away to Wolverhampton Wanderers!

I didn’t think it was a wise move bringing back the injured personally. Let’s move on and give youth a chance to now ready for next season whatever happens.
