Luton Town – Happy To Have Been Proved Wrong On This Occasion

Just over a week ago, here on Vital Luton Town, I penned a couple of articles relating to one of last summer’s signings Cauley Woodrow.

The first – strikers-future-comes-under-the-microscope – questioned whether Cauley, after what I’d call an indifferent season last time round, had a future at Kenilworth Road, now the Hatters have hit the big time.

The second, reported on a poll on the very same subject – support-give-their-view-on-strikers-future – reporting on the poll result from the same subject matter.

The poll was a close run affair with 54% believing Cauley’s time might be up with 46% reckoning the 28-year-old still had a future at Kenilworth Road.

As it turns out the minority were correct with the Official Site, declaring yesterday (Saturday) that Woodrow had put pen-to-paper on a new contract, indicating that Rob Edwards does have a place in his Premier League squad for the player.

However, as seems to be the norm this summer, the length of the new deal isn’t revealed.

But, talking about the player and as reported on our referenced source, Rob Edwards had this to say, among other things, about Cauley:

“Cauley has had a frustrating time since we came in. When we arrived he was just coming back from injury and worked extremely hard to get himself fit.

“He may not have been starting matches, but he was coming on a lot as the first sub to be introduced and was always very important, whether we were winning or losing games.”

That’s very true.

Last season, Cauley made 32 appearances for the Hatters with 23 of them coming from the bench.

Now whether Cauley can become a regular in the starting XI, next season, or remain a valuable asset able to be introduced from the bench, remains to be seen.

But, after expressing my doubts as to whether he would remain a Hatter, I must admit, on this occasion, I’m happy to have been proved wrong.

Cauley deserves a chance as do the players who took us up. I hope we dont sign too many as to de stabilize the unity & fantastic team spirit which is the main reason for our sucess.
remember the core of the 1982 promotion side went on to be very capable in the top tier. We kept that nucleus for 7 years & things only went wonky when we dismantled it. Letting the Steins & then Mick go was a big reason for our demise. A unified comraderie is very very powerfull.
also we cant destabilise the dressing room with high earners coming in, seems Marvelous’s wages would be in that category.
