It is the morning after the night before and the memory of the heavy defeat we suffered, at Brighton, is still fresh.

But the pain will ease, the memories we will hold dear, from yesterday, will be the fact we played our first Premier League game, the traveling support were fantastic and but for our naiveness we could have emerged with a better result.

Following the game, the gaffer, probably like many of the support, could hardly speak having shouted himself hoarse from the touchline urging his players on.

However, Rob Edwards, as honest as ever, gave the media the required interview and, as reported by Sky Sports, had the following to say:

“I thought we competed well and were in the game at 2-1, they then killed us off when we had opportunities to clear the ball. That shows the ruthless nature of the league. In the first half we were solid, compact, and aggressive and managed to retain a counter attacking threat.”

Indeed we did, the penalty, successfully converted by Carlton Morris, gave us fresh hope but our naiveness, especially defensively, cost us.

Continuing, Rob added:

“We were disappointed to go in 1-0 down. I thought the penalty was soft but it’s never going to get overturned.”

To be honest, I thought, on reflection, both penalties were soft and VAR could have been more lenient but that’s the way the game goes.

Further adding, Rob remarked:

“They started smelling blood at 2-1 with us going for it to try and get back in the game. They deserved to win but I’m proud of the players, we’re going to get better.”

“We have to learn quickly.”

Rob has every right to be proud of his players, they gave their all but he’s also right, educating the team has to be done quickly, basic errors have to be eliminated, even if it means clearing the ball into row Z, but we have two weeks before our next game, away to Chelsea, time to put some more hard work in down on the training ground.

although i am not a fan of ruddock, it was just not him, but a few players not performing to prem standard. don’t expect miracles, but a better team performance is needed. several players tried to clear balls that went direct to opposition ,to start another attack. mostly simple elementary mistakes. sure it will be put right.exciting to see us in the prem at last.COYH.
