Brighton and Hove Albion was always going to be a tough opening fixture to our first ever Premier League campaign.
And so, it proved to be exactly the case, although I don’t feel the scoreline reflected our performance.
At times we matched Brighton, but there were also times when in possession we gave the ball away far too easily and as for the final ten, or so, minutes we lost our shape trying to chase the game and were, as you can be in the top-flight of English football, were punished accordingly.
Viewing the comments made on social media, the following few comments caught my eye:
That’s a team that got into the Europa league last year and actually watching the game, we did pretty well against them.
Couple of late goals when we were leggy but positives to take. What was Pelly doing for the third, though…

Done really well today couple of errors and pen that was never one and kept up to pace against a top 6 side 👏

2-1 probably reflected us a bit fairer. Playing a club in Europe but worked hard enough for the goal. 4-1 just showed fitness went in the last 10 or so. Still it’s a big lesson. Two weeks now to get it going again

A couple of naive errors but other than that thought we matched them for 90% of game. Promising & a harsh scoreline.

Indeed, Brighton were a top-six side last season, but playing devils advocate, they were missing key personnel from the team that surprised many, most notably Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister, with the former waiting for a move to Chelsea to materialise and the latter having joined Liverpool.
But like I said in my pre-match scribe – continuing-to-defy-the-odds-in-the-face-of-adversity – I refuse to get downhearted, Luton Town are on a glorious journey, we’re punching well above our weight and there will be moments, probably several, where matters don’t go our way but we need to keep a positive attitude:
1 game down, plenty more to go! We learn and move on, be proud guys 🧡

Exactly, our points will come from those teams who don’t have top-six ambitions and we have to accept that, we know there are games where we will be out-classed.
One last point, it is good to see someone who doesn’t support the Hatters, offering us praise:
you guys played a lot better than what the score line said. you have a lot of heart and I respect that. good luck to you guys for the rest of the season! 💙🤍

Thanks, luck, at times, might be something we’ll need if we are to stun the pundits and retain our Premier League status.
Keep those chins up!

Luton Town – The Perfect Choice
Lessons learned from the game.refs an var just as bad as any league.felt personally that neither penalty was warranted.Championship defending against premier strikers cost goals .lack of a premier striker will cost us points if we continue to not take chances we create I counted 3good opportunity to score an we missed them. Its been said a striker costs to much ok what about a loan maybe cole Palmer man city . All that said it was our first game an time is with us to sort it out.
we just need to play as a team. it was individuals making bad decisions. they looked in a sort of daze. we have goal scorers in this squad, lets use them. the three chances chris talked of would have been a game changer, we have got to score, simple as that. having said all of that, brighton showed lovely passing skills and very tricky dribbling skills ,but we can match that, we have the players. hope this break can encourage our team to show there true worth. unhappy but not disheartened. COYH.
As I said before the season Jimbo championship scorers rarely cut it in prem an Morris is the only one looking like making the step up. An as I said plenty of time to sort midfield and defence out. I felt the midfield was to soft and didn’t press well enough.
To fair chris brown looked promising…
Promising maybe let’s hope he’s up to speed as quickly as possible then.
the whole squad looks promising, just need to perform as a team. we have got the pieces of the puzzle, just need to put it together.COYH.
I don’t disagree with that Jimbo. But we don’t have time to monkey about to much. Hence my feeling that we should go back to our team tactics from last season in midfield nakamba Campbell berry for sure. An leave Giles and kabore to feed Morris an I’d try brown with him.then later bring on a flair Chong Barkley or obenge
