Luton – The Championship Managerial Merry-Go-Round Continues

The last couple of days have highlighted just how difficult the world of football management can be.

Back in November, when Nathan Jones decided the grass was far greener at the St Marys Stadium than at Kenilworth Road, a number of possible replacements, to fill the void Nathan had left, were mentioned.

One such name was that of Neil Critchley, somebody we featured in an article relating to the subject of Nathan’s replacement – critchley-linked-with-hatters-vacant-managerial-position

But while Nathan’s eventual successor, Rob Edwards, has thrived in his new role at Kenilworth Roa, the same cannot be said of Neil Critchley.

After a spell as the Blackpool manager and as Steven Gerrard’s right hand man, at Aston Villa, Critchley looked to have the credentials to succeed in the Championship.

Well, that is what Queens Park Rangers thought!

Sadly, for Neil, that wasn’t to be the case with the axe being wielded after, in his dozen games in charge, he only managed one win.

Our West London rivals have now turned to Gareth Ainsworth as their new boss which, in turn, will gut the supporters of Wycombe Wanderers, where he has been in the managerial hot-seat for over a decade.

Furthermore, another managerial change has taken place with Matt Bloomfield, leaving his Colchester managerial role, to return to Wycombe, a club he left in September 2022.

As for Queens Park Rangers, Ainsworth becomes their third managerial appointment in under a year, they’re fast becoming the new Watford.

Thankfully, the Luton hierarchy seem to have made a good choice, in appointing Rob Edwards, stability is the way forward, chopping and changing is not.
