Luton Support Say Splash The Cash

|

Yesterday, our featured article, covered the speculation linking the Hatters with a big money move for a centre-back.

Our article – luton-to-splash-big-cash-on-a-centre-back – covered the speculation linking Luton with a move for the young Wolves centre-back, Dion Sanderson, with the Premier League club, supposedly, wanting £2 million for the player who spent last season on loan at Sunderland.

The speculation followed hot-on-the-heels of yet more speculation, a few days ago, linking Luton with a move for the Rapid Vienna striker, Ercan Kara – luton-set-to-break-club-transfer-record.

The bountiful speculation reminded me that in the second article we had used our poll facility to ask a very pertinent question:

Should Luton Break Their Transfer Record To Land A Striker?

In what was an important poll, one that evokes memories of clubs spending too much cash and then finding themselves in financial trouble, we only gave you two options to choose from:

Yes, It’ll Be Worth It

And

No, It’s Too Risky

As someone who can recall he bad old days when Luton were cash-strapped, one instance being the forced sale of Peter Anderson, to Antwerp, back in the 1970’s, I have to admit that I would always be wary of spending big.

But, on the other hand the expression ‘speculate to accumulate’ kept tugging at my heart strings.

However, being frugal I opted for No It’s Too Risky choice.

But how did the Vital Luton Town readership vote?

Well, surprisingly, 69% voted to throw caution to the wind and went for the Yes It’ll Be Worth It option, leaving me in the 31% minority who went for the No It’s Too Risky option.

Am I right or am I wrong?

Please feel free to discuss and leave your views in the comment facility beneath this article.

Morning mh, having seen the players already brought into the club. For me there is one piece of the jigsaw needed. A goal scorer. No disrespect to adebayo our Jerome. But I see 10 goals apiece as a starter for them. So another must join them. Whether we pay £50 or 2 Mill is imiterial. Just get him in.

i fancy that fred will score a few and kioso as well if he gets a chance. as much as i would like to see a mick harford type ,i think we will be scoring goals with what we have. i dont know if rea is staying, but he makes me nervous in defence.i hope naismith is pushed more forward,he is a good player.i also have high hopes for elijah this season,he will be a great player for luton.COYH AND ITALY.

I feel the same about rea has one good game then let’s himself down with bad passes , Naismith is someone I would like to see in that role as he has a very good pass in him . I think over the next two to three transfer windows we need to let a few of the players that we have had at the club for some time go ,they have served Luton very well but we need to kick on with the new stadium coming and getting into the premiership .

  • Chris winter says:

Hi jimbo, I’m sure the rest of the squad will be able to chip in another 20 goals. But a striker is needed. I’ve just seen former Town loanees Joe Pigott is supposed to be in talks with us not one for me though.

  • Curly says:

Adebayo will double his goals tally If we sign Carlos Mendes Gomes . If we subsequently fail to sign him then Yes, I would say splash some cash up front. We announced a £3.3 Million profit for last season, ( Not many Championship Clubs can say that) so to say we have no available cash is just not true.

  • JIMBO says:

like most fans i would love to splash the cash.reality is we are uncertain what is happening month to month with covid,so i would be frugal. if we have another wave who knows what will happen, and will clubs be able to survive. sorry to bring this back to reality, but its true. COYH AND ITALY.

    • Mad Hatter says:

Very much so JIMBO, nobody know what lies around the corner, especially when winter arrives again.
