Yesterday, in the first of two articles relating to a posting from a visitor to Vital Luton Town, we opted to discuss transfer fee transparency.

Our article – that-age-old-question-raises-it-head-again – attracted, rightly so, some attention.

Today, in the second article relating to the comment posted by Sad Platter, we’re focussing on the Power Court development.

Recently, Gary Sweet, in an update, we covered in the following article – the-big-power-court-development-question – our board emphasised that it was their intention to see the project through to completion.

But Sad Platter, in his posting, wasn’t so sure, penning the following:

“I honestly wish PC was going to happen, but all the signs are not good. Gary Sweet has so far blamed Brexit, Covid, changes to people’s shopping habits and needing changes to the original plans. What were these exactly?

“The latest announcement was almost a surrender, switching the tone to one of hope rather than intent. Not encouraging to many.

“Could it be the plan was to attract a buyer all along?

“It would look a decent proposal on paper, lack of debt, championship club, decent training facilities and land to build a stadium on prime ground? What could be an issue… can I suggest the asking price?

“Are 2020 again learning lessons… this time about stadiums or selling a football club to rich investors?

“I hope not!”

A controversial view but one that could be argued may be a way forward. English football is now becoming a playground for foreign investment, whereas, previously, foreign owned clubs could be counted on the fingers of one hand, these days the majority of takeovers are by foreign consortiums.

Sad Platter makes some good points and with inflation still rife, the cost of building Power Court is, I’d imagine, escalating by the day.

Now, in no way is this article intended to criticise the fine work the board are doing and have done so in the past, but would a takeover, by the right consortium, be the perfect answer or would it just open up another can of worms?

Sat in the editorial chair, I’d be interested in reading your views, on the above subject matter, in the comment facility beneath this article.
