Luton – The Big Power Court Development Question

Image for Luton – The Big Power Court Development Question

Driving through the outskirts of the town centre, there still doesn’t appear to much, when it comes to signs of development, happening at Power Court.

Now, I am a patient man, or sometimes as my wife insists, but I was starting to get concerned that the rising of the new ground development, at this barren spot, was never going to happen.

After all, since COVID-19 rudely interrupted everyone’s plans and then the desperate goings on in the Ukraine saw inflation go through the roof, I wouldn’t complain, too loudly, if the Luton board decided to throw the towel in and stay with Kenilworth Road.

But thankfully, the board are made of sterner stuff and as Gary Sweet explained in his Boardroom Notes, the club are determined to see this project through to conclusion, with Gary Sweet remarking:

“Of course, you wouldn’t expect me to sign-off¬ without providing some re-assurance on our developments at Power Court. I can’t deny that this is the most challenging project on our plate right now and has increased in its difficulty and complexity due to recent changes to the political and economic landscape. As I have mentioned previously, most – if not all others – would have given up, as many other such clubs have. But rest assured, we won’t! We are absolutely progressing.”

Progress may be slow, but, I believe, the board are to be congratulated for showing such resolve amid the financial uncertainty we all live in.

My only question remains, as always, just when it will all be completed and the Hatters can play in apparent luxury.

Hi MD, I think we are around the same age give or take a few years . I don’t think we are going to see power court for some years yet but we have been waiting for so long my father who watched luton play during the war kept telling me when he was alive we been after a new ground since just after the war and this is the closest we have come to getting a new one . At rhe moment I think going up to the premiership would really help us to get our dream at the moment. Coyh

good points Andrew, I’m approaching 62, I do this site as a hobby, I can recall my dad telling me that we’d never have a new ground in his life time, I’m starting to ponder whether the same fate awaits me.

i would guess 2027 as a realistic time. this is much more than a stadium, its a massive development. it will take millions just to get the infrastructure ready before any building takes place. 2020 should be extra careful with this project, it could easily go tits up, but the clever people at 2020, will tread carefully, and rightly so. hang on for a few more years chris, and enjoy the new stadium.
