Yesterday, with the transfer speculation gaining momentum, we ran an article relating to the future of Matt Macey.
Our article – portsmouth-agree-to-sign-luton-town-star-matt-macey – covered the inference that our 28-year-old, third choice keeper, was not going to move to either Aberdeen or Dundee United but was headed towards the south coast.
We can now confirm, as reported by the BBC that Macey has indeed joined Portsmouth on loan for the remainder of the season.
Reporting on the signing, the new Portsmouth head-coach, John Mousinho, appointed yesterday, had this to say about the signing of our keeper who has made just one start for Luton Town this season:
“I’ve been so impressed by his manner.
“Matt is a real leader. That’s so important as a goalkeeper.
“He’s an outstanding shot-stopper and a massive presence in goal.
“He wants to come and play for this football club, which is a great thing when you’re bringing loans in.”
No doubt he does, having not even made the substitutes bench, for Luton Town, in recent times.
Naturally, opinion is divided on social media, with Luton fans split.
There are those who are wishing him well:
All the best Matt.

And those who are only too happy to wish him on his way:
good riddance

But his departure has also been recognised by some as meaning the Hatters now have to bring in a replacement, quick, otherwise a repeat of last seasons’ goalkeeping woes could be repeated:
Now buy someone

But it remains to be seen who?
Naturally, some of the Portsmouth support believe they’ve hit the jackpot:
Quality signing

While others are not so sure and are seeking reasssurances:
Does he come with glowing references from previous clubs fan base ?

Do you want to tell them or shall I?

Luton – That Age Old Question Raises It Head Again
My feelings on macey are well known. Will he do well in div 1. I doubt it. Nothing against him personally he’s got on with it here I’ve not heard anything bad about him. If he succeeds there fine but he’s non league keeper for me.
Instant Twitter response to Luton News headline ‘Macey hoping to bring calm’ I saw said “He will cause chaos”…
Even if it goes well for him, now has rest of season with Morrell chewing his ear on Luton so don’t see him settling long-term back in the side.
Wish him well in his career but unlikely to be with us.
he seems to have made a good debut with pompey, good luck to him. COYH.
