Luton – Paying The Penalty As More Points Are Lost

One thing I’ve continually mentioned as the Hatter climbed back into the Championship, from non-league football, relates to chances.

As you climb the league ladder, you find fewer chances are created and the necessity to convert them becomes a priority.

Unfortunately, in the last three games, none of which Luton have won, we’ve spurned chances that you need to convert, something that, when it comes to points, has cost us dearly.

Sadly, in those three games, against Coventry City, Preston North End and Burnley, the Hatters by way of conceding penalties, one in each game, have given the opposition the perfect chance to score and, sadly, they have done just that.

It’s a fact that has not been lost on the Hatters support and remarked upon on social media:

It is gutting because, like the post above says, 5 points lost could, when it comes to achieving a play-off place, have a negative effect, indeed, if we had of stayed penalty free, we’d now be challenging Middlesbrough for third place and be a massive six points ahead of the team below us, Sunderland.

But, like I’ve said before, life is full of ifs and buts!

Let’s just ensure we don’t make it four penalties in four games, conceded, next weekend at St Andrews.

Careful what you say about the strikers mh, some on here will remind you that one of them is still a youngster learning his trade at 25 😁 lol but it reminds me of past strikers Douglas showommni to name two. But until we start converting open goal chances we will struggle.

Like I’ve always said, the higher you climb the league ladder the less chances fall your way and you have to be clinical.

Eli hasn’t struck through any of his chances just like his penalties… Seems to flourish under confidence as the 5 in 5 shows but seems affected too easy at minute, anything going on behind scenes?
We could have had 7-9 point, deserved at least 5 points, have taken 2 points… Hopefully a small blip in a very good all round season.

our strikers will start scoring again, and we have young lads waiting to break into this team. with the club looking to the future, we have developement teams that are performing beyond expectations. this blip in scoring is to be expected. COYH.
