Luton – One Thing That Puzzles Me

Yesterday, you may have noticed, no fresh articles appeared on the pages of Vital Luton Town.

I was not staging my own kind of social media boycott, like most clubs will be doing from 15:00 hours this afternoon, instead I was taking my wife to Addenbrookes for her annual check-up.

It is something that I do every year and every time I make the journey, I am immensely impressed by the architecture the city has to offer and the immense work being done by what must be one of the top hospitals in the country, a facility that sprawls over several acres.

But whilst sat in the waiting room, with my mind drifting, I cannot help but recall my various visits to the Abbey Stadium, over the years, to see Luton Town take on Cambridge United.

I can recall one visit where we all crammed into the back of a Luton van to make the short journey, another when during the pre-match warm up a shot from Steve White hit me flush in the face and floored me and another when we were caught in a stampede of cows in the field behind the ground.

But the question that always comes to mind is why such a wonderful city, a city steeped in history and tradition, has such a woefully poor football ground.

Can anyone provide the answer?
