For me, we are approaching the time of the year when the football season really kicks in.
Summer has gone and now the nights are starting to draw in.
We are going from long summer nights to a situation where we will soon be having more dark hours than daylight one.
Soon, we will be back under the scenario where those familiar floodlights, at Kenilworth Road, will be illuminating the night sky, which brings me nicely around to the focus of this article.
Now I must admit I love this time of the year, I love watching football under floodlights, for some reason the aromas hit me more vehemently.
The glow of the lights, the smell of the embrocation and that walk to and from the ground when there is a chill in the air.
But it begs me to ask the question, is it your favourite time of the year or, like me, do you prefer midweek games when darkness has descended?

Hi MH Like you the atmosphere of an evening game under the lights is an atmosphere like no other.
However can i say something about your reference to embrocation. I remember as a young man standing behind the Oak Road goal as teenager watching a remarkable man standing in goal and the smell of embrocation /white oils filled my nostrils. This man I believe to be our greatest goalkeeper. He would pluck balls from the air as if they were petals falling from the sky. To this day I believe he is the longest living England capped goalkeeper and if the club had been more fashionable he would have surely got more than his three caps. The name of this great man Ron Baynham.
