Luton – Nathan Jones Faces A Selection Conundrum

It really does seem an age since the Hatters were last in action, this international break has seemed to be far longer than usual.

Perhaps it’s down to the fact that sport coverage, last weekend, was not the greatest and that the enforced break has come at such an exciting time of the season.

But, this Saturday, the Hatters do return to action when they take on Millwall, at Kenilworth Road.

Both clubs still have hopes of being involved in the Championship promotion shake-up although, to be honest, Luton are better placed than the South-East London club to achieve that goal.

However, the resumption comes with a couple of questions that need answering.

Before the break, the Hatters were on a great run of form, a series of wins had seen them climb to third place in the table with the latest wins being achieved, probably against the odds, with a starting XI blighted by injuries, reports from inside the club suggested that, when it came to players, the Hatters were down to the bare bones.

But and here is the first question, wit the injury situation having, hopefully, mellowed, will Nathan revert to type and ditch those that served us so well in those last two games, before the break, and bring back a host of familiar faces?

Here at Vital Luton, we’d certainly be interested to hear your views on this subject.

The second question revolves around the international break. I was asked if this break is likely to see a dip in form.

Investigating how we’ve fared after other international breaks this season, no clear pattern emerges with, if I’ve researched correctly, Luton suffering mixed fortunes, as the following results show:

– Blackburn Rovers (a) – 2-2 (Drew)
– Millwall (a) – 0-2 (Won)
– Queens Park Rangers (a) – 2-0 (Lost)

Perhaps the influencing factor could be that the game, against Millwall, will be the first one we’ve had at home after an international break.

Whatever the XI Nathan selects, a win, on Saturday, would go a long way to helping the Hatters secure a play-off place.

Sometimes the brake can stop the momentum that teams have but i think this will work in are favour we were down to the bare bones at the back so to get a back 4 that we know will help i also think we will get promotion some will say i am dreaming but here’s a fact in the last 2 world cups years Luto. have gained promotion

Lets not have any expectations of promotion the Humongeous financial step up that would burden us with.

Lets just be so thankfull we are where we are.

Obviously if we can go up & somehow balance the books of higher wages & transfer fees ,then all well & good.

But lets ot get down if we dont .even if we dont make the play offs ,its been a fantastic season anyhow. The sad thing all the vultures are ready to pounce for Adebayo, Naismith , Cornick etc etc !

Remember Brentford were at the top end for a few years , & nicely timed promotion with their new ground .

labelling a potential once in a lifetime 130 million+ windfall as a burden which would easily cover the present shortfall in building Power Court with a shed load left over is beyond bizarre ……………
top your half empty glass up mate & trust in 2020 …… this opportunity may not come knocking again

To say we would come straight back down is a probability but if you look at the bottom 9 or 10 in the Premier would anyone say we would take points from them. There isn’t a lot to chose between the bottom 10 prem and the top 10 championship…if we go up, if, get the ground done and then invest in some new faces then who knows, we could upset the FA and stay up….

The Chelsea cup game showed even against a top team just how much of a part KR plays as our 12th man when it’s full and rocking. Their players hated it, their fans hated it and it took a roasting from Tuchel at H/T to fire up Europe’s finest multi-million pound team to edge a narrow win.
It was interesting to note in the next round Middlesbrough in their nice, shiny stadium they didn’t unerve Chelsea they way we managed too.
Looking at the current PL table i’d say with some shrewd financially viable additions, we would be more than capable of matching the 3 & 4 wins Norwich and Burnley have achieved so far courtesey of the old girl playing her part.
Our upward tradjectory hasn’t plateaued out as of yet so thinking big about promotion and potentially surviving in the PL isn’t that unrealistic imo.
We’re on our way and it could be our year, other than Fulham who else has really been that much better than us …….. the table doesn’t lie !
