Luton – Midfielder On Trial At Kenilworth Road

There are, as I type, just 9 days to go until the 2022/2023 EFL season begins, and the excitement levels are building.

So far, Luton Town FC have added seven new players to the squad, but could that soon become eight?

The reason I ask is that, as the Hatters registered win number five (out of five), in their pre-season friendly fixtures, against Peterborough United, there was a unfamiliar face on the pitch.

It appears, according to Luton Today, Nathan Jones is giving a trial to 20-year-old Max Haygarth.

Eagle-eyed spectators may well have noticed his unfamiliar face, at Northampton, where he was an unused substitute.

Previously, the youngster has been on the books of two big clubs, namely Manchester United and Brentford.

But, talking about the youngster, Nathan Jones has given a broad hint that like some of the others he has brought on board, Haygarth is, more than likely, one for the future with our source attributing the following remark to the gaffer:

“It’s just getting him in and there’s a few little things we’re doing, a few little bits of business that just safeguards the future for years to come.”

Are we to assume that his comment refers to the like of Louie Watson, Elliot Thorpe and now, possibly Haygarth?

If so, it’s pleasing to see that although this season is our priority, one-eye is also being cast on the future.

Morning mh, this looks like a player that would have a chance to play sooner rather than later having first team experience at Brentford. Also with Brentford using their Danish youngsters rather than home grown talent. As the owners other team is Danish an he uses Brentford to blood them and raise their value. Might mean he’s good enough just won’t have been given the opportunity to shine. Whether he will get that if he signed. According to nj he won’t. joining the list of young non players being loaned out!!!!

Hi CW, good information thanks for sharing.
Seems Pereira is getting a lot of friendly match time and has a goal, an assist, won a penalty, plenty of opportunities created from the write ups…
Think he will get a shot this year?

Hi Steve, well if njs sticking to his guns then no. But I’ve seen perriera twice an for me he’s doing enough to be around the first team this season.

we really need to be bolder giving the apprentices & development players a chance.
So so rare now since over 15 years !!

What happened to our conveyor belt of top talent in the 80’s & 90’s.
Man u wern’t afraid to blood them under Fergie & the class of 92 were OUTSTANDING.

Fergies Babes had a strong bond already from youth days .

a STRONG BOND & COMRADERIE are VITAL to sucess.

The United teams since Fergie have been brimming with overpaid top top talent ,but lacked the unifying comraderie so blew hot & cold . you CANT BUY TEAM SPIRIT !!

Couldn’t agree more with you. I’ve been banging the same drum on posts here myself. I blame it on the fact that clubs no longer use scouts from Scotland Wales an Ireland many of our young players made the club a fortune back in the day. For me the problem starts with the cedars academy not producing good enough local boys. It seems the talent isn’t there. An the loss of things like the South Eastern counties league for boys an the football combination league for the next step.

Just a piece of gossip I’ve picked up a European club has tried to muscle the pepple deal. So much for tariqs. He will sign by weds. It may not happen now who knows.

  • Chris winter says:

Hi jimbo, seen perriera playing twice now. An if he doesn’t get some mins against West ham it will be a travesty. Looks ready to surprise championship sides. So I live in hope.

I think as other people have said it depends whether NJ will drop his stubborn “favourites” approach this season where he plays some players that just dont deserve to get in the team – with Sheez on board as coach and Paul Hart moved on and Big Mick about I think NJ will be made to justify playing someone who is just not up to standard which, is good for the club. Sheez really sang the praises of Pereira.
