Luton Linked With Young Defender Possibility

It is no secret that the Hatters are looking to bring in a central defender to bolster their squad.

It is an area that has been beset with injury problems with Sonny Bradley still out injured and Reece Burke having missed several games through injury.

At times, the Hatters have been forced to utilise Dan Potts or Amari’i Bell as part of a centre back partnership with Tom Lockyer.

One option explored was that of Michael Hector who was out of contract, but that came to nothing.

But while we expect Luton Town to make a move in the January transfer window, could the possibility of a loan deal be an option?

The reason I ask is that Football Insider 24/7 are reporting that several Championship clubs have contacted Chelsea about loaning their young defender, Bashir Humphreys.

Humphreys, capped at a lower level by England, made his Chelsea debut in the recent drubbing, by Manchester City, in the FA Cup 3rd round.

On a poor night, for Chelsea, Humphreys was, probably, the only positive aspect of a heavy defeat.

He didn’t put a foot out of place and definitely looks to be a name to look out for in the future.

But, with several Championship clubs enquiring about the possibility of taking him on loan, for the remainder of the season, I’m wondering if Luton Town could be one of them?

Your thoughts please.

Hi MD , I think we need to get someone in asp to bed them in maybe on loan but would prefer a signing, one for future why do both as sonny not get any younger and I wonder if he will be there next season so maybe irlts time to start looking for replacements. Coyh

A loan would work for short term cover for injuries but any Premier player would expect game time. Doesn’t help long term. We need a permanent signing at centre back that we can build the defence around, like Sonny when he first signed. I also think he will be gone at the end of the season.
