When Luton Town signed Joe Morrell from Bristol City for an undisclosed fee, it was thought that the Welsh international midfielder would become a mainstay of the starting eleven.
However, despite a bright start, that did not become the case.
In fact, I would not blame the 27-year-old midfielder if he was now questioning the wisdom of signing for Luton.
The 2020 / 2021 season saw Morrell make just 5 starts in the Championship and a further 5 appearances as a substitute.
Also, Morrell has not featured at all for the Hatters since being hooked at half-time in that remarkable comeback, at Kenilworth Road, against Sheffield Wednesday.
But has he had a raw deal?
According to Nathan Jones, probably not with the gaffer being quoted by Luton Today, As remarking about the player:
“He has to be better than the other midfield players at the club.
“We want to keep moving forward and tough decisions have to be made in terms of on a weekly basis to the squad, but I don’t think we’ve been unfair to any player.”
With regards to that first line, perhaps we could ask why was he signed if he was not better than the midfielders we already have at the club?
More importantly, with decisions having to be made with regards to the playing squad, could Morrell be deemed as surplus to requirements and sold this summer?
Your thoughts on the above subject matter would be most welcome in the comment facility beneath this article.

Luton – Things Are Set To Get Worse For Town Striker
I personally think Morrell and moncs should be given to prove they can fill the gap left by KDH.. as players they must look at that space and show they can fo a job there…
just get players that can pass the ball accurately, then the strikers might score some more goals.moncur should get more starts, not really sure about morrell, welsh team seem to rate him.C.O.Y.H.
That final ball is so important
Good enough for the Wales National team, but not Luton?
I watched many Wales games, never see him have a bad one, could it be because he wants to play football in midfield and we don’t.
Maybe NJ could enlighten us as to why he never got a real chance to show he’s potential.
Good point Paul, he does appear to have been criminally under-used.
Hard to say we don’t play football in midfield when everyone is raving about KDH….
Agreed, KDH does play football in Midfield, but you don’t have a one man midfield, what about the others.
The point I’m making paul is, if as you have suggested, just hump the ball forward, how is KDH been rated so high and has got 62% of people on voting him player of the season. That was my only question. Also Ken has suggested we don’t create enough chances yet after lot of games this season nearly everyone on here myself included ,have said , missed chances have cost us points. If your not creating, you can’t miss..we must be doing something right…..its all down again to people’s expectations, 62 points,12th finish who really would not of taken that at the start, with our ground and budget that’s a massive season…we can’t, in our present ground expect much more…not an argument, just my opinion….
I would suggest that our midfield this season has not created enough chances for the strikers, who in the main have had a wretched season, so as it seems KDH will go, the midfield either needs new creative players or the current squad to step up and replace him with even more enthusiasm and creativity.
We need Alan Slough, Ricky Hill, Alan West, Bruce Rioch to name a few
Now that would be a midfield to die for.
like the look of that midfield.good memories.C.O.Y.H.
