In the days before the 2020 / 2021 season commenced I, along with others, were interested to see what Sam Nombe could off the Hatters.
The 22-year-old, who signed on the dotted line in October from MK Dons, was signed on a season-long loan spell with a view to making the move a permanent one when the season ended.
For Sam it must have seemed like a dream opportunity, climbing up a division with a chance to prove he could play at our level.
Unfortunately, it just did not happen for the young striker who found himself making just 12 appearances, in all competitions, throughout the season.
But, it appears, the situation is about to get worse for Sam.
I would be incredibly surprised if Nathan Jones were to activate the ‘buy permanently’ clause in the loan contract and, according to The Milton Keynes Citizen, MK Dons are not planning to offer the striker a deal for next season.
Therefore, instead of playing Championship football next season, it looks very much as if Sam will be among the gaggle of players looking for a new club.
Like they say, football can be a cruel game!
