Luton – It’s All About Us Not Them

It’s Tuesday and Luton’s date with destiny is drawing closer by the day as we prepare for the EFL Championship Play-Off Final.

The nerves are starting to build as I contemplate the enormity of the occasion.

This time next week, with the Bank Holiday weekend over, the army of Luton supporters that descended upon Wembley could be returning to work as a Premier League side, who would have thought that to be possible when we were languishing in non-league football.

But one thing is starting to worry me, mutual respect.

It hasn’t been hard to notice the number of people who have adopted the attitude that if it’s not Luton Town that are going to win then there couldn’t be a better club than Coventry City to grab that financially lucrative place in the top-tier of English football.

One being Luton’s own Nick Owen who, in a video broadcast by the BBC, admits he has a soft spot for the Sky Blues.

Now I’ve nothing against Nick, he’s always seemed to be a solid, decent sort of chap who always had Luton’s best interests at heart, but this Saturday we can’t afford to show any feelings towards our opposition, too much is at stake.

To win would cap what I’d deem to be almost the perfect season, the riches bestowed upon us will provide the impetus to finally get Power Court done, to lose would, in my opinion, be a near disaster, one that could take years to get over, just look at how Huddersfield Town fell away this season after competing in the final this time last year.

So please, no matter how much anybody has admired how Coventry have come through bad times, the final, this Saturday, is all about Luton Town FC, if, heaven forbid, we lose, there’ll be no smiles from me, admiring what Coventry have achieved, I’ll be gutted, heartbroken and desolate, just three of many words I could use to describe my feelings.

    How old are you?

  • Steve Cox says:

I feel the same as you MH. I’ve been a Luton supporter all my life (68 years) and I only want one team to win. Our story is tougher than most if not all the other teams. So, let’s be proud of our team. COYH

It’s a special season regardless of the result, the boys have been amazing this year and excelled more than any of us dreamed.
To a man will be cheering us over the final hurdle and will be devastated if we don’t win… But worst case, if we lose, then after all the dust settles and the emotions drained by kick off next season, I will still feel some relief that none of the North East teams went through… Must be too much Angel P*ss in the water up there the way their fans carry on…
    COYH one last push!
