Luton – Going Round In Circles

Yesterday, while doing my utmost to do some long overdue tidying up, I came across something interesting.

Moving a stack of old football programmes, I came across the one that is featured as the lead picture in this article.

But it is not the programme itself that caught my eye but a leaflet that fell out of it.

Contained within the programme was the leaflet, pictured below, which introduced a campaign entitled:

“Let’s Kick Racism Out Of Football”

But what really intrigued me was the date of the fixture!

The game, a Division Two fixture, Manchester City v Luton Town, was played on Wednesday 14th April 1999

Which leads me on to ask, have we been paying lip service to what is now a familiar problem for all those years?

If so, running along a similar theme, can we expect to be in the same kind of predicament when it comes to Carbon Emissions and the climate in 20 years’ time?

Returning to the game though, I have to say that the team sheet, on the back page, features some familiar names and some who are not quite that familiar:

• 1 – Kelvin Davis
• 2 – Chris Wilmott
• 3 – Mitchell Thomas
• 4 – Matthew Spring
• 5 – Sean Dyche
• 6 – Alan White
• 7 – Tresor Kandol
• 8 – Andrew Fotiadis
• 9 – Stuart Douglas
• 10 – Michael McIndoe
• 11 – Gavin McGowan

Subs

• L’andry Zahani-Oni
• Emmerson Boyce
• Stuart Fraser

Manager

• Lennie Lawrence

Were any of you at this match?

What are your feelings on how little, it seems, progress has been made over the racism debate in the 21 years since this game?

Please feel free to have your say in the comment facility beneath this article.

Morning mh, lost 2 – 0 remember the fraudulent ferret doing lots of running around but little else!!! But as you say nothing has changed which is why I’m frustrated by all this taking the knee an all the other business before kick off. Let’s go back to the announcer calling on fans before the teams come out.

Hi all , all this taking the knee and everything that is going with it I don’t feel anything is being achieved as it’s not changed the chanting by some fans or 5he online hate that is going around. I feel it’s not as bad as when I was young but because of 24 hour news and the internet we are hearing about more . It is slowly changing but it will never go away in my life time I feel 😢😢. Coyh
