It’s amazing how things can change so quickly in this wonderful game of ours.

It wasn’t long ago that there were mutterings of discontent emerging from the Luton support as the side struggled to pick up a win, especially at home.

But now, after taking 7 points from a possible 9, things are starting to look a little rosier in the garden.

The latest of those three points came, last night, at the KCOM Stadium as Luton beat a Hull City side who had sacked their manager hours before kick-off.

It was a controlled performance with the only scare coming when a shot deflected off a Hatters defender and crashed against the bar.

The win saw the Hatters climb up to 5th in the table and talking to the local BBC radio station, Nathan Jones had a smile on his face when he remarked:

“It was an excellent performance. It was a trickier game than it looked as they changed manager, which can have an uplift, but we had to concentrate on ourselves, which I thought we did fantastically.

“Once we got to grips with the press, we smothered them, and we should have been more than 2-0 up at half-time.

“The onus isn’t on us at 2-0. We always believe we’ve got goals in us. Once we put the level of performance in in the first half, in the second half it was about trying to go out in the final third but if you can’t you need to defend well, which I thought we did.”

It was a decent performance and although many may have expected Luton to increase their lead in the second half, it is worth remembering that 2-0 is always dangerous score, any gung-ho play could let the opposition in, reducing the arrears and resulting in a nervous last period of the game.

Therefore, I’ll admit, like Nathan, I’m more than happy with the outcome.
