Luton – Everything To Play For

On Saturday the 9th January, the Hatters welcome Harrogate Town, to Kenilworth Road, for a 3rd round FA Cup tie.

The magic of the FA Cup paired us with a side who play in League Two but who have only recently been promoted to the EFL.

Now I’m sure the Harrogate supporters will arrive in their hundreds to attend, for what is them, a trip to a far bigger club.

However, this year, those that control our sport, aware of the impending fixture chaos that probably awaits us due to various reasons, but mainly COVID, have decided to amend the rules.

If Harrogate Town had any ideas of clinging on for a draw and taking Luton back to the wonderfully named Envirovent Stadium for a home tie those hopes have been dashed.

The Football Association has decreed that all 3rd round matches will be decided on the day, even if it means the folly of a penalty shoot-out.

It seems that gone are the days when clubs used to have not one, but maybe two, replays before a tie was decided.

It’s not a move that gets my approval, but what are your thoughts on this decision?

Can’t see any alternative at the moment mh. Just have to live with it.

I’ve no idea. But at this time it makes sense to avoid more games and then they get cancelled for one reason or another. Making it harder to complete the leagues.

It’s Covid rules remember, hard decisions have to be made, not only for the game, but society in general. I do empathize with everyone in the U.K, I know covid is a lot worse there than here in Oz, but the hierarchy have to make tough decisions, and this is one I agree with. Let’s all just concentrate on getting behind our beloved club and win the match.
