As we eagerly await the resumption of the 2019 / 2020 Championship season, one topic of debate is who will make Nathan Jones’ starting eleven for the fixture against Preston North End, on 20-June.
I’m sure you all have your ideas on who will emerge from the tunnel to be greeted by an empty stadium bar the few who are needed to stage the game.
But, for this article, I’d like to concentrate on a position that has courted controversy this season, that of who’ll be between the posts.
Back in the heady days of the summer of 2019, the Hatters broke their transfer record to sign Simon Sluga, with a fee of €1.5 million changing hands.
Sluga was thrown straight into the side and never really got to grips with the English game making numerous errors that were to prove costly when it came to points lost.
The Croatian was eventually taken out of the front-line by Graeme Jones, much too late some might say, with James Shea taking over the role.
However, Sluga was to regain the green jersey and just before the season was so rudely interrupted began to look the part and in the last game before the break, against Wigan, produced a decent injury-time save that ensured the Hatters earned, what could be, a crucial point when it comes to maintaining their Championship season.
But it should be pointed out, Luton have a more than capable third keeper on their books, Marek Stech.
Stech, for reasons unbeknown to us, never got a chance under Graeme Jones and has been conspicuous by his absence and, we believe, his contract is fast coming to an end.
In his previous spell in charge of Luton Town. Nathan Jones often had difficulty in deciding who to choose between Stech and Shea but with Sluga now on the books, the Welshman has a very difficult decision to make.

Hi mh, so the fans have voted for sluga to start. Fair enough he has improved immeasurably since he started. But for me the signs are still there that a vital mistake is in wings. And I would prefer shea in goal for the last 9 games. The defence knows what they can expect from shea an derive confidence from him.
My views exactly, one mistake could prove to be the final nail in the coffin. It’ll be interesting to see who Nathan select.
