Luton – Blackpool (h) – The Views Of Honest Rob

I’d imagine there’s a positive demeanour about Rob Edwards at this precise moment of the season.

The gaffer, since taking over from you know who, has steered the Hatters to third place in the table, with just five games to go.

In doing so, he’s also steered Luton Town to a nine-game undefeated run and all for a club on one of the lowest financial budgets in the EFL Championship.

But I doubt very much as if Rob is taking anything for granted at this stage of the season, indeed it wouldn’t surprise me if he had concerns about how, after a second game in four days, his charges failed to spark from the off.

Talking to the BBC, after the 3-1 home win, against Blackpool, the gaffer had this to say:

“We talked about the expectancy, and we had to deal with that.

“It was never going to be like the previous home game. The expectancy is we’re third, they’re in the bottom three, so just turn up and win, and we know it’s not like that.”

A fair point, often playing a club struggling to maintain their status in this league is harder than against a team striving for promotion, there are no easy games at this stage of the season.

Continuing, Rob added:

“We were a little bit open at times in the first half and then when they got that first goal from a set-play, which is unlike us, the job’s doubly difficult.”

Yes, the marking was slack and after our recent run of form, conceding from open play did come as a shock.

Continuing, Rob further added:

“We showed great character and belief in what we do as well, so in the end, delighted, but at the time and during the game I think we all sensed it, it was a dangerous game that one.”

It was, in my opinion our performance level dipped but we carved out a result at a time of the season when results are more important than performances.
