Luton – Are We In Danger Is The Question

|

Another home draw has given me that familiar stomach churning feeling.

I am becoming deeply concerned that despite our bright start to the season our recent form has seen us, instead of consolidating our mid-table position, slip down the table.

At the time of writing, the Hatters have played 27 games and have amassed 34 points and sit in 15th place in the table.

Our points total leaves Luton just 6 points above Birmingham City who occupy the third relegation place, although they have played a game more than us.

With Luton travelling to St Andrews, next Saturday, to take on Birmingham City, it is fast becoming a crucial fixture.

But, has our gradual descent down the table given you the same fears that I have?

Could this be a season we all remember for the wrong reasons?

Morning all no team is to good to be relegated. We need to smell the coffee now. Yesterday was game we should have won….looking at the fixtures rest of this month,,yes I’m worried. Two live games on sky dont brim me with confidence either….we have a much regarded former centre half and centre forward on our coaching staff, but we struggle to defend and struggle to score….we know nj is a capable manager so it’s now down to the players to start taking a long hard look at them selves. Harsh but true….this situation needs to change from now……

there is always one team that sits in mid-table, come the halfway point of the season, that drops into the relegation battle, I hope it isn’t us!

  • Martyn says:

    G’Day Hatters,
woke up this morning disappointed, another match whereupon we didnot achieve our full potential in points tally of late…. we now have a team of players that on paper could keep us in this division but can we?

I personally would like to see a fuller use of substitutions especially in attack format, like yesterday when later on in the game we came under heavy attack…….. as Cloughie use to say “Attack is the best form of defence”

    • Mad Hatter says:

Talking of Cloughie, I remember when Nottingham Forest were relegated and he was asked if they were to good to go down, his response was “the table doesn’t lie”

Hi mh, hi all my major concern is now becoming Nathan Jones. His rigidity in his beliefs on formation an tactics an when to use subs is now as Alan an I have expressed in previous posts. A major worry!!! Personally I don’t care if we have to go long an punt. All I want is to survive till the summer an I believe a lot of players will be shipped out an a rebuild is nessersary. But somebody at the club has to stand up an tell Jones where he’s wrong.

in a word …YES ….we not good enough in front of goal we all been saying for months we dont score enough goals that could easily cost us in the end!!
also i feel NJ doesnt make the right subs at right time..ie yesterday he takes off berry for the more defensive minded Rae now im not blaming rae but within 2 minutes we conceded i think it was an unnecessary defensive change to make imo and then the others were too late!! i would also queztion bringing on naismith in closing stages why not put the new lad on and pump the ball in his direction for last 5 minutes ..NJ wants to score the perfect wwll made team goal sonetines root 1 is best option especially in closing stages again just my opinion

  • Alan says:

Hi chris, I agree with you chris, but also I think the players must take on some responsibility. Nj admitted last week the players switched off. That’s not down to management. I think Saturday nj will ring some changes…

    • Mad Hatter says:

I wonder what the XI will be, Ince and Adebayo to start?

    • Chris winter says:

Hi Alan, I wish I could be as confident as you about Jones ringing the changes. As Paul has said I have said even you’ve agreed he’s blinkered by loyalty

      • Alan says:

Hi chris, got to remain confident. I hope nj does have a shake up, but If he does and we get beat where do we go from there….its a dammed if you do, dammed if you dont scenario…..

  • Paul says:

I don’t think he will change it, NJ seems to want to prove a point that will back fire on him if he doesn’t soon see the realisation ahead.
We were comfortably safe in mid table a few weeks ago, now we are starting to drop into the lower half.
Teams bellow us are starting to find some form, while he thinks we are better than we are, but we are getting slowly picked off and I worry unless NJ changes his thinking, we will soon be in a relegation battle.
some of his decision making is questionable at best, and blind loyalty to some players who are just not doing the job, but still get selected every week.
Apart from not getting the second goal, our defending has been poor all season.

  • Scotty says:

Of course we COULD still be relegated…. it’s hardly likely though is it? 7 out of the 9 teams below us have to catch and overtake us and all 13 above us have to stay above us. It would take an immense amount of bad luck or extremely poor performance for it to happen. The bookies have us as high as 16-1 average about 12s. 1 point per game average from here on would give us 53 points. More than enough to be 16/17th

  • Matt says:

Yes, a point a game would be enough and surely we can manage that? But the average points per game has been declining gradually since the 10th game when it was 1.6 to 1.25 now. Any further decline puts us in danger. Charlton started last season really well but it slowly went wrong until we caught them on the last day. I don’t fancy needing a point at QPR on the last day to stay up.
