Luton – And Finally It Is Happening

Image for Luton – And Finally It Is Happening

Only a couple of days ago, as I exited the town centre driving home towards my area of the town, I passed what, hopefully, will become Luton Town FC’s new home.

As I passed the site, I couldn’t help but notice the hoardings surrounding the potential development were hemmed in with hoardings advertising the local company Gibbs and Dandy.

The words penned on the boards suggested all materials supplied by the referenced company, now I’m not sure if that relates to just the hoardings or the complete development!

Now, in the not-too-distant past I’ve expressed my doubts as to whether the stadium, especially in the current economic climate, will get built.

But it seems my doubts are ill-founded.

Lurking within the pages of the Match Day Programme, for the Sunderland game and as reported by Luton Today, Gary Sweet has given the support an update on remarking:

“I’d like to reassure everyone that despite the economic and political chaos that ensues, we continue to crack on with Power Court.

“The lengthiest process of all is the preparation and the UKPN (UK Power Networks) will soon be on site to start their major works which will take over two years to complete (without necessarily completely constraining our progress on the stadium I should add).

“Alongside this we have groundworks and civil contractors on site now continuing with our final investigations and putting together the final plans for opening up the River Lea culvert.”

One day as I pass by the site, driving my trusty car, I’m sure my eyes will pop out of their sockets as I finally get to witness something arising from behind the hoardings, let’s hope it is sooner rather than later.

if you have been involved with any type of building work, especially the magnitude of this project, you would’nt be suprised at the time this is taking. the simplest of jobs can take an absolute eternity. i think 2020 are wise to make sure that everything is done properly. don’t forget this is a major development, just exposing the river lea, can’t imagine the rules and regulations that are connected to that. this development will totally transform this neglected part of luton. as with all building ,it dos’ent look as any work is being done, groundworks and foundations are rarely noticed, but are the vital part of any building. i know we have been patient for too many years, but be patient.if only ikea made football stadiums.
