Luton Support Not Happy With One Aspect Of The Sunderland Game

After the humiliating 4-0 loss to our near-neighbours, last weekend, the Hatters support were hoping for three points yesterday, against Sunderland.

But, despite taking the lead, through Carlton Morris, and controlling large portions of the play, it wasn’t to be with Sunderland, perhaps deservedly, sharing the honours thanks to an equaliser from Elliot Embleton.

But how did Luton let the game slip away from them?

On social media, several feel that the trio of substitutions, made by Nathan Jones, around the 70th minute, were the problem with Jones taking off Morris, Campbell and Doughty and introducing Mpanzu, Bradley and Cornick, as the following posts illustrate:

But is it a view you share?

Did the triple substation affect the balance of the side or was the head of steam Sunderland built up always going to result in a goal being conceded?

For me it tipped the balance in Sunderlands favour. It was a mistake.

Not really just poor timing for me.

My annoyance is why does NJ always favour Elijah over Carlton. Is Carlton Morris not able to complete 90 mins ? We totally lose attacking bite when Morris comes off. Thought Pelly did well had 3 important blocks. Harry needs proper game time, i don’t feel he is a game changer substitute.

Don’t understand why he has to put three players on at the same time? it seems to destabilise the team, I thought he would of learnt from the Wigan game ( he said he had ) obviously not, if he keeps doing it he’ll find the fans getting restless and the whole team will suffer

Are home form is a problem. I thought we did ok substitutions were very strange to be honest should of been left as it was still its a point which on balance is a fair reflection of the game Lansbury can not keep himself fit that is a real problem as he is a good player and gives us that creativity that we dont have when he not on the pitch

NJ certainly was wrong with the subs Bradley has no pace and was caught out with the speedy forwards Pelly was dropped into the defence which left the midfield over run. jerome should have come on for elijah and played two big physical forwards up front. cornick needs a decent run out he is not a game changing sub

All the comments on here revolve around our players, but maybe the game was won by Mowbray’s tactic of bringing on three athletic ball-players who outpaced our tired legs at the back?

  • Steve says:

It was just a typical 2nd half showing , lead at half time NJ changes tactics to hold lead which we never do!! Allow them possession allow them to attack us and as usual hardly any shots on target 2nd half
