Luton And Edwards Blazing A Trail

When the managerial change came, with Nathan Jones leaving and Rob Edwards taking over, there were mixed thoughts as to how the season, for Luton, would go.

I hoped that with the new appointment, Luton could kick on and at least emulate, achieving a play-off place, last season, while others were more concerned with Luton maintaining their Championship status.

So far, Edwards has seemed more than adequate, as far as the job is concerned, and Luton Town are growing into the season.

The win, away at Wigan on Saturday, saw the Hatters climb into seventh position in the EFL table and, with a game in hand, are within striking distance of a play-off place.

Following the win at the DW Stadium, and as reported by the BBC, Edwards gave an astute view of how he thought his team had played:

“It was a really good response after losing a week ago today after being 2-0 up. It did hurt us. The first goal in any game is really key and the second one, if you get it, makes it a little more comfortable although I never felt fully comfortable today.

“They put us under a lot of pressure, and it was difficult to defend the long balls. I was delighted with the timing of the goals and thought they were really well-worked goals as well.

“The second goal was a great counter attack and the perfect weight of pass made the finish so much easier and he took it very well. It shows that we can come to difficult places and not only compete but win. I felt we limited them to very little and I’m delighted with how we defended.”

Although many may point out that Wigan are bottom of the EFL table, Luton still had a job to do and, as has happened so many times before, they have been quite adapt at losing points where it never looked likely they would, on paper.

Since joining Luton, Edwards has only seen his charges lose twice. The first was courtesy of an injury time winner at Middlesbrough and the second a 3-2 defeat against the best team in the Championship I’ve seen so far, at Kenilworth Road.

All the other Championship games, if I recall correctly, have seen the Hatters win, in my opinion Edwards and his back room team, are doing a remarkable job, the team seems refreshed and the football, on offer, is far better than during the closing weeks of Nathan Jones tenure, all in all I reckon Edwards and Luton are a fine fit, how about you?

I’m quite happy to recant my opinion on Rob joining us that I expected us to finish mid table.. I also repeat an opinion I made in my earlier post that managers unless very top notch. Seem to have a shelf life with clubs of 2 to 3 yrs an Nathan Jones did us a favour leaving when he did we had got stale an Rob has freshened things up. When I posted that Steve b remarked that cornick in interview made comments that things may not have been rosy anymore. But of course we’ll never know.
