Luton – And Another Leaves Kenilworth Road

For the second consecutive day, Luton Town have announced the departure of a mainstay of their squad from the 2020/2021 season.

Yesterday, as we reported – luton-striker-joins-cardiff-city – it was James Collins that left and joined our Championship rivals, Cardiff City.

Today the club has announced the departure of a key defender for the last three seasons – Matty Pearson leaves the Hatters to join Huddersfield Town .

However, it has not taken us completely by surprise as, here at Vital Luton, it was something we discussed only a couple of days ago – luton-defender-set-for-move,

But what has surprised us is that in a poll that accompanied the referenced article, 61% went for the LET HIM GO option and only 39% saw it as A BODY BLOW if he were to leave.

Whatever happened to the ‘Magic Hat’ adulation that used to be bandied around Kenilworth Road, in the days in which we could enter the stadium?

Last season, Matty made 38 Championship appearances and scored 2 goals, he leaves Luton after making a total of 136 appearances and scoring on 10 occasions.

In joining Huddersfield Town, we will see Matty again, when our paths cross next season and I am sure he will get a decent reception.

But I must admit I am bitterly disappointed that he has chosen to leave and although I may have, previously, implied that I would like to see Naismith and Lockyer at the heart of our defence next season, I would have liked to have seen him provide competition and back-up, for that duo.

As for his choice of destination, has nobody told him it is Grim Up Norf!

Hi MH, think I have said in the past, a back 3 of Naismith Pearson and Lockyer would have been quite a formidable unit…but hopefully Osho can develop and fill the gap….

  • Danny says:

there’s no mention of him turning down a new contract unlike Collins, maybe he wasn’t offered a new deal ?

Although perhaps he made his feelings clear to the gaffer before the season came to an end.

  • Danny says:

i think your probably right MH, having read what he’s got to say about the move he always wanted to go back to his home area of Yorkshire so it’s probably something the club knew about in advance.

I am tried of players leaving us and saying that they are moving to a bigger or massive club , I feel that we are turning into a big club . Just look at the table and see who are be low us and they are big clubs so what does that make us . I just hope we can move forward again as we have done for the last few years and make some of those think about what they have said . 😤😤

luton have never been a big club but the future just might change peoples opinions. we have a good solid base with 20/20 taking the club to new levels. just need to bring in good players, year on year, and we will get there.players that make comments when they leave, pinch of salt. dont forget that some of these bigger clubs are in s**t street with finances.
