A week ago, I published what many might call something of an abstract article which received an interesting response.
The article – luton-a-european-xi – contained a team consisting of players who had worn our famous shirt and who had also been born in Europe.
What I failed to maybe make clear enough was that the XI referred to only mainland Europe with several of the readership nominating players who had Irish connections.
But such suggestions led me down another path and I thought how about compiling an XI of players who have connections with both Luton Town and the Republic of Ireland especially with the town having such a rich Irish heritage.
After much deliberation, I came up with the following XI (plus substitute), see what you think
Goalkeeper – Dean Kiely
Defender – Michael Harriman
Defender – Glen Rea
Defender – Alan Sheehan
Defender – Kevin Foley
Midfield – Ashley Grimes
Midfield – Tony Grealish
Midfield – Kevin Keane
Midfield – Gary Waddock
Striker – Don Givens
Striker – Aaron Connolly
Substitute – Gary Doherty
Can you think of others that fit the criteria and, maybe, should have been included in the starting XI?
If so, simply drop their names in the comment facility beneath this article.
