Luton – A Controversial Rule Change Gets The Go-Ahead

During my ongoing tenure as a fan of both Luton Town FC and football in general, I’ve witnessed several rule changes.

Some I’ve embraced with open arms while others I’ve had strong objections to.

Yesterday – the Official Site – confirmed that from the start of the 2022/2023 season, EFL clubs will be able to make not one, not, not three, not four, but FIVE substitutions during a game.

Now, I’ll leave you to decide whether you think it is a good rule change, but I will leave you with a couple of thoughts.

Allowing the introduction of FIVE substitutes, will benefit the clubs, in our league, who are able to assemble bigger and costlier squads, will Luton Town fall into that bracket?

Plus, about rule changes, is it possible that a rule could be introduced whereby substitutions in stoppage time are forbidden?

It really does my nut in when, for example, four minutes of stoppage time are announced and managers take the opportunity to ‘time waste’ by making a change, it’s not game management, it’s blatant time wasting, but more of that to come soon.

There is no doubt we would have benifited from this rule last season on a number of occasions and may be would have saved some players from long term injury had they been able to be subbed an not stayed on. It will be the same for everyone an nj did call for this on a number of occasions
