With my hoard of the ‘They Played for Both’ series all but exhausted, I thought I’d go down a different, but similar route.
I thought I’d do my best to compile and XI comprised of players that have played for the Hatters bit were born on the continent of Europe.
Some areas of he XI were easier to complete than others but after some deep thought and some exploration, I’ve come up with the following XI:
Goalkeeper – Simon Sluga
Defender – Claude Gnapka
Defender – Jarosław Fojut
Defender – Jean-Louis Valois
Defender – Herve Bacque
Midfield – Raddy Antic
Midfield – Ahmet Brković
Midfield – Vidar Riseth
Striker – Luke Gambin
Striker – Lars Elstrup
Striker – Bontcho Guenchev
Substitute – Carlos Mendes Gomes
As usual, I’m sure that you, our readership, can come up with a few more names that fit the qualification scenario.
If that is the case, please feel free to drop a few names into the comment facility beneath this article.

Luton – 2021/2022 Reviewing The New Signings – Reece Burke
Janos Kovacs (Hungarian) was a great centre back in the non league days. Ashley Grimes is still very much from an EU country and was a great left back. Gary Doherty too in defence.
And if we want to stretch it to Irish born in England we could have Gary Waddock, Liam George, Kevin Foley and Keith Keane. You could have Dean Kiely in goal too.
It’s probably possible to build a European Luton team from Ireland alone.
I might give that a try!
to be fair I should have stipulated i was focussing on just mainland Europe!
Here bacque was a forward!!! Scored twice in pre season friendly against a first div side then was absolutely s**te!!!!! An luke gambin an a couple of others in an not 1 of the Finnish boys who played for us rediculace. Shame on you mh 😂😂😂 all were worthy of including.
I hang my head in shame lol and offer my apologies to Markus Heikkinen, Petri Helin and any others from the Artic circle I may have missed 🙂
Marcus Heikkenenand Chris Coyne Adrian Alston
You’ve forgotten Graham French! Chris Coyne? I thought he is Australian. What about Milija Aleksic?
Aleksic was born in Newcastle-upon-Lyme!
Could we have another European player about to join us? I don’t think it’s going to happen personally
Antonios Papadopoulos! Seven figures! More chance of getting Mr Papadopolous who used to own the launderette in Eastenders 🙂
Marek Stech….to redeem myself over citing Aleksic….By the way, Darren McDonough was born in Antwerp, so using the criterion of born in continental Europe, he counts.
good shout re McDonough
