Luton – A New Deal But Will It Be Plain Sailing

The last time, here at Vital Luton Town, we commented on the future of Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu, it was because the midfielder was being linked with a move to Turkish football.

As the article linked here shows – stalwart-linked-with-turkish-move – my gut feeling was that Pelly, after 298 appearances for the Hatters, and now out of contract, was headed for pastures new, whether it be Turkey, Middlesbrough or Blackburn Rovers.

But my gut feeling was wrong!

Late yesterday afternoon, the club announced Official Luton Town that after much deliberation, Pelly has decided to put pen-to-paper to extend his stay with the Hatters.

Talking about the deal and as reported by our referenced source, Pelly had this to say:

“I love it at Luton, everyone knows that. The Kenny has become my second home and we’ve achieved so much in my time here.

“I know it’s taken a while with going away on international duty, an honour which playing for Luton has helped me achieve, but I know I’ve made the right decision.

“I have a special relationship with the supporters here as we’ve been on a journey together right from the Conference, and I couldn’t leave without experiencing a packed Kenny again.

“I can’t wait to get back into the swing of things. It’ll be so good to be back among the lads and hopefully together we can go on to make so many more memories.”

But our big question to you is quite simple.

With Nathan Jones having undertaken a major revamp of the squad, including adding some midfield talent to the side, how many Championship starts will Pelly make?

With 298 appearances, for Luton, to his name, Pelly sits in 24th place in the Hatters all-time appearances list, there is no denying his contribution has been magnificent as the club bas climbed out of non-league football to now compete in the second tier of English football, but has the midfielder already peaked when it comes to his Luton career.

Now whether Nathan Jones gave Pelly re-assurances about his place in the starting XI we are not party to, but he will face a difficult situation with the likes of Allan Campbell and Henri Lansbury having been signed.

But competition for places is what drives a club forward, Pelly may not be a new signing but acquiring the services of yet another of the old guard could just be what the club needs as it integrates the new boys.
