Last week, I ran an article that discussed the dire situation our former gaffer, Nathan Jones, found himself in at Southampton.

The article – surely-the-tide-must-turn-soon-for-former-hatters-gaffer – highlighted how Nathan had overseen a run of 4 consecutive defeats in the Premier League and only had a win, against a lower league side, on his Southampton side.

In concluding the article, I concluded that surely the tide must turn soon for the former Luton boss.

Well, it seems it might have with, in the last week, Nathan seeing his charges win two games, one in the EFL Cup and one in the FA Cup.

In the EFL Cup, his side produced a midweek performance that saw Manchester City, winners of this trophy 4 times in the last 5 years, outplayed, outclassed and sent back to the north-west on the back of a 2-0 defeat, to secure a two-legged semi-final tie against Newcastle United.

In the FA Cup, last Saturday, Nathan took his squad to South London and returned with a 2-1 win, against a Crystal Palace side who are struggling this season, but fair play to the former Luton boss, credit where credit is due.

Sadly, my hopes of the Hatters drawing Southampton, in the fourth round, were scuppered when Southampton drew Blackpool, but perhaps, in the 5th round our paths will cross.

But those cup successes will count for nothing if Nathan fails to get that crucial first Premier League win.

Today, Nathan takes his squad to take on an ailing Everton side who, under Frank Lampard, are facing a second consecutive season in a relegation fight.

I know it’s comparatively early in the season, but I get the impression this game is what the pundits’ term as a ‘six-pointer’ with both sides being desperate for the victory.

Can Nathan break his Premier League duck when it comes to victories, or will it become FIVE defeats in FIVE Premier League games, thereby increasing the pressure on Nathan?

My view is that Everton will nick the three points by a solitary goal, I’m going 2-1 to the Toffees, how about you?
