Two games into the 2023/2024 season and the Hatters are already finding out what a tough task they face as they seek to retain their top-flight status.

After being soundly beaten, 4-1, by Brighton and Hove Albion, Luton Town travelled to Stamford Bridge, West London, hoping they could get a result against a Chelsea side who had failed to win any of their first two games this season.

But alas it was not to be.

Our first foray, into London this season ended in a comprehensive 3-0 defeat on a night when Chelsea, as we probably expected pre-match, dominated possession.

For most of the game the Hatters were on the back foot and the sneaking suspicion was that if Chelsea were to score then Luton Town would struggle to get back into the game.

As it turned out, after Raheem Sterling had opened the scoring, the Hatters responded well and in a ten-to-fifteen-minute spell, in the second half, threatened our hosts.

Unfortunately, our efforts didn’t result in that crucial goal and our hosts went on to take all three points courtesy of a second goal from Sterling and one from Nicolas Jackson, a young striker who looks to have a fine future in the game.

Naturally, like many other supporters, I’m disappointed but, before the season started, we all knew it was going to be a tough campaign and I doubt whether Rob Edwards had marked down a trip to big-spending Chelsea as a fixture where he thought he could get a win, possibly a draw, but not a win even though the Stamford Bridge club have had a disappointed last twelve months or so.

Now is not the time to sulk, now is the time to look forward to our next two fixtures, Gillingham (Carabao Cup) and West Ham United (Premier League).

Hopefully, a win against Gillingham will boost the confidence of a squad really needs to register their first win of the season.

We have to be relistic and relise this season is going to be tough to watch just have to stick by Rob Edwards and the players and not turn on them as we all know fans love you when your doing well not so when your struggling

Honestly as I feared cut to pieces in midfield some good things from the game Barkley burke kaminski an the front two all had excellent games sadly at the moment bell is a liability an not premier class. For me we have to put berry an Campbell in along side Barkley he can do the class work he an burke were everywhere last night trying to organise everyone.im not getting at Rob he is in no danger. He’s got to work with what he has but he can change formations and if necessary do so.

Totaly agree Bell is out of his depth never rated him hopefully Rob Jones sorts it out We need Osho back Campbell should be in the side he will run and press all day long don’t understand why he not in the team

Neither can I he’s first in to training does extra after as well is the fittest player we’ve got yet Rob doesn’t seem to rate him or berry. But what do we know we’re only fans and don’t see the training and coaches know better than us what they want 🤔🤔🤔🤔

      • Alan says:

Sorry but it will be a while before we see osho….
