Football Pundit Picks Luton For Promotion

After watching the Hatters win, at Cardiff, courtesy of the red button on Sky Sports, I switched channels just in time to see the tail end of Soccer Special.

At the point I joined, the panel had just been asked, who out of the teams chasing a play-off place, ignoring the duo of Fulham and AFC Bournemouth, both of whom look certain to take the automatic promotion places, would clinch that crucial Premier League place via the play-offs.

The first three asked, Michael Dawson, Jamie Mackie and Clinton Morrison, all chose the side we beat on Good Friday, Nottingham Forest.

But when it came to Paul Merson, the former Arsenal and England player, bucked the trend and inferred he believed Luton Town will surprise everyone.

Sat here, in the editorial chair, I can only hope that Merson is correct, although I did remind myself that, at the start of the season, Merson championed Chelsea to be crowned Premier League campions.

But Merson must be right some time, doesn’t he?
