Does anyone remember when a Saturday involved a regular trip to the football, albeit a home or an away fixture, followed by a stint in a public house until it was kicking out time?

In these pandemic driven times, it certainly seems like an eternity since a Saturday resembled the above and, sadly, I cannot see normal service being resumed for quite a while.

The recent announcement, by Boris Johnson, of a second national lockdown has put the kybosh on any chances of spectators being allowed back into grounds.

Indeed, picking up on what is being said and with the month of March being constantly mentioned as when things are likely to get better, although the Prime Minister has promised some kind of normal Christmas for us all, I cannot see the end of behind-closed-doors football happening this season.

In fact, with the pandemic taking hold through a second wave, I am fearful that, somewhere down the line, we could well see an interruption to the season, like that we witnessed last season.

All the above is going to seriously affect the members of the EFL, a lack of gate income and revenue associated with match days, will result, in my opinion, several clubs going to the wall.

Indeed, as the financial implications bite, it would not surprise me if the richer Championship clubs and those in the lower reaches of the Premier League, used the opportunity to poach the best talent from those clubs that are found to be struggling.

A case of the survival of the financially fittest.

Now quite what the future holds for Luton Town Football Club we can only put our trust in the Hatters hierarchy and hope they have done their sums right to ride out the oncoming crisis.

Fingers crossed everyone.
