A lot later than I anticipated due to a variety of reasons, it is now time to tie up my demographic study when it comes to those who visit Vital Luton.
Previously, as the extract reproduced from a previous article shows:
It started with a simple poll, at the foot of this article – a-competition-id-rather-we-did-not-feature-in-but – that simply asked:
As A Luton Supporter Where Are You Based?
With a mere 14% of those that voted admitting they lived in Luton, whereas the remaining 86% that voted confirmed they lived outside of Luton.
The outcome, I have to say, surprised me, if the poll results are representative of the support as a whole, then most Hatters supporters come into Luton from other areas, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, suburbs of Bedfordshire perhaps.
Which got me further thinking.
Of the 86% of those that do not live in Luton, perhaps, just perhaps, some did once live in Luton but opted to move further afield.
Therefore, to satisfy my curiosity, at the foot of the following article – time-to-tell-us-the-truth – I posted a poll which simply asked:
Were You Born In Luton?
The results proved just as interesting, with 56% admitting they were and 44% implying they were not.
Further intrigued, I produced one more poll to complete my dissection of the Vital Luton Town fraternity, a poll which questioned how old you are.
With three categories to select from, it turned out that the majority of those who voted, 87%, admitted to being, just like myself, over 51.
Surprisingly, just 1% of those who voted were under 25, with 12% being between 26 and 50.
So finally, without any further delay, I’m able to deduce that the demographic of those who I try to keep entertained is:
Live Outside Luton but Born In Luton and 51 And Over
Now I wonder how many of you perfectly fit that analysis or whether the statistics can be moulded to suit!
COYH’s
Preston North End v Luton Town?
Preston North End to Win!
Luton Town to Win!
A Draw!

Fits me!
Fits me, born in ’68. Luton born and bred.
I lived in Kenilworth rd in the 50’s as a young boy. Next sold to Asians & they had morning ,afternoon & evening shifts in each of 12 beds !! Not surprisingly the locals started to move out !! We are now less than 50% Indigineous population !! I lived in India for 4 years & have no prejudice, but they dont support the town, only a few RARE asian faces at the ground !
I now live in Cardiff & go to games like Cardiff, Swansea , Bristol City plus I follow live Tv coverage.
Its so sad as Reading has massively developed as a business centre & commuter town to London. they have built a super stadium & is even FURTHER from London than us !!
However they have managed to retain the bulk of their indigineous population.
I am fearfull as to wher the extra supportes to fill Power court will come from ?
In my previuos comment I meant NEXT DOOR sold to asians , not us !
I wholeheartedly agree with Roby. Not being racist as we would DEARLY LOVE the Asian Lutonians to be into football !! Just think how Luton could be if it had followed a MEASURED immigration policy like Reading & Watford & Milton keynes. MULTI culturism means a VARIETY !! East Europeans & Blacks etc are more into football. If we had gone dow the MULTI cultural road our fanbase would like Watford & Reading be at least DOUBLE what is is now !!
I agree with Jonathan .
Even MK dons if they were in the Championship would easily fill their 20,000 plus stadium. They have gone down the MULTI culturism rd, A bit like spice a bit of this a bit of that, but Luton is UNRECOGNISEABLE for the Town I grew up in the 50’s & 60’s . I too now live OUTSIDE Luton.
But the Hatters are still in my heart , I cant pick up a United, Man City , Chelsea or Liverpool shirt as many fair weather supporters do.
I started supporting in 1965/66 at our LOWEST ebb division 4 !! But then came Bruce Rioch, Malcolm Macdonald & PROMOTION AFTER PROMOTION !!
Right now is very similiar to back then, but we managed crodds of 15 to 20,000 back then ,when the support lived IN Luton !! I agree filling Power court from the 87 % who travell IN from elsehwere is a worry !!
I agree with the previous few posts. Last time I was in Luton I mentioned to Local Police how the Town has been TAKEN OVER !! !! They warned me not to talk like that !! So the Town officials have waved the white flag of surender! soon the support will be 100% from outside Luton ! as the balance goes from 50/50 to 40/60 30/70 & on & on !!
Might as well build the stadium OUTSIDE Luton!! It would be much cheaper !!
maybe because there are very few asian players, is a reason for lack of support. all races should be welcome, the more the merrier. in the skinhead era ,a lot of asians were targeted in luton, and them sort of incidents are not easily forgotten. there are probably many reasons why local people don’t want to attend, how can you encourage them. if the average age of supporters is 51 plus? COYH
But Leicester & even Arsenal have a good percentage of Asian Supporters ! But mostly INDIAN !! it seems the Moslem community really shun football sadly ! Anyone know how to entice them in ?
