Luton – What Took So Long?

The events of 16-May-2022 will remain etched in our memories for a long time.

If seeing our dreams of competing in the Championship Play Off Final, at Wembley, ended by a Huddersfield Town team we were better than wasn’t bad enough, then the events that followed the sounding of the final whistle only compounded matters.

Now I’ve nothing against a good-natured pitch celebration, I’m sure Luton fans would have responded in a similar way if the result had been reversed and we were playing at Kenilworth Road.

But it was the way the celebration quickly deteriorated and the Hatters travelling support were subjected to a baying mob hurling missiles towards innocent people.

Yesterday, it was announced, as covered by the Yorkshire Examiner
among others, that Huddersfield Town had been charged by the Football Association for failing to control its supporters with an FA statement reading:

“Huddersfield Town FC has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E20.1 following its EFL Championship game against Luton Town FC on Monday 16 May 2022.

“It is alleged Huddersfield Town FC failed to ensure that its spectators, and all persons purporting to be supporters or followers, conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from using provocative and/or threatening and/or violent behaviour whilst encroaching on to the pitch at the end of the game.

“Huddersfield Town FC has until Monday 11 July 2022 to respond.”

Like the article headline asks, what took them so long?

It remains to be seen what the outcome of the charge will be, but I doubt whether it’ll be anything more than a cursory fine!

Huddersfield still haven’t mentioned it on their website or offered an apology at any time since then. And no update from the police on arrests or apologies for how they treated us either. Zero surprise.

Huds got fined £50k for having a paddy power power sash on their kit 3 years ago. Be interesting to see if a kit prank turns out be the same order of merit as this punishment wise
