Luton – What To Do With Carlos Mendes Gomes

For the second consecutive summer, Nathan Jones seems intent on revamping the Hatters squad.

So far, with some time still to go before the summer transfer window closes, Nathan Jones has signed SIX players:

• Alfie Doughty
• Matt Macey
• Cauley Woodrow
• Louie Watson
• Ethan Horvath
• Luke Freeman

Having made half a dozen new signings, question marks hover over the Luton futures of several of last season’s squad.

One player who immediately springs to mind is Carlos Mendes Gomes.

Signed from Morecambe, last summer, Mendes Gomes was one of the signings that excited me.

I was off the opinion that he could make the jump to Championship football and have an impact, but it never really happened for the lad.

Indeed, the statistics show that Mendes Gomes made just 2 Championship starts with a further 7 appearances from the bench and never really looked like making the impact we expected.

Therefore, with SIX new arrivals already announced, I must ask the following question:

What To Do With Carlos Mendes Gomes?

Keep Him!

Keep Him!

Loan Him!

Loan Him!

Sell Him!

Sell Him!

It’ll be interesting to see how this poll turns out.

Mh, I’m completely baffled by the situation. We have no idea of the boys limits as he’s never been given a run of games. Sell him an he becomes a star returning to haunt us. Loan him and he becomes another kioso unhappy. Keep him here an not playing him the same as loaning him. So it’s lose lose. Why did we buy him.

my understanding is he was also our most expensive signing last summer!

        Exactly!!!!!

Not all signings work out for one reason or another I was hoping to see him progress but not to be and loaning him out still keeps this large squad and seemingly getting bigger on the books if hylton could see it ( legend) then I’m afraid he has to go

NJ has such a wealth of talent now, could regular rotation be an answer? It would keep the players fresh and hungry if NJ picked the players in relation to the opposition instead of choosing his favourites every time. Goalkeeping is a classic example. Surely if Horvath and Macey both have the confidence of their defenders, then why not keep them both active with regular league games and encourage Isted, who has stepped up to the plate magnificently when called upon, to gain game time in cup matches. Am I being too naive here?

There are several players that we could sell that are not first choice or up to the standard ie CMG, Harry Isted, Pelly Ruddock, Dan Potts. Not the time to be sentimental – football is a business after all.

big al and peter scott,i agree 100% with both of you. rotation might keep players free from injury?. peter your list is what a lot of people are hinting at. no sentiment ,business. also watch danny hyltons final interview, what a geezer, legend. best of luck to you.COYH.

I agree Danny is most of all a great human being – by going he gets the chance to be a hero again and helps us out by making the decision for us. Sometimes players just cant fit in and CMG maybe one of those – give him a loan to someone and see how he does would be my answer – NJ is though really doing almost a restructure so we must sell some of the old players to save their wages
