Luton – Two Points To Ponder Over

As far as pre-season friendly fixtures go, the thrashing of Hitchin Town, yesterday afternoon, gave us few clues as to how the Hatters will line up for that first EFL fixture against Peterborough United.

But, reflecting on the 7-0 win, two points immediately spring to mind.

It is impossible to ignore the performance of Jordan Clark.

In a one-sided first half he managed to net all four goals, emphasising his sharpness at what is still early days when it comes to preparation for the new season.

A while ago, I published an article – a-starting-xi-for-next-season – in which I mused over who might start in that first EFL Championship game of the season, I did not include Jordan Clark which just goes to show what difficulties Nathan Jones faces when he must put together his XI for that much anticipated first fixture at Kenilworth Road with an abundance of good players at his disposal.

The second point relates to the man between the sticks in the second half, Harry Isted.

Released by the Hatters after the conclusion of the 2020/2021 season, it was surprising to see him in goal for the second half.

Yesterday, in an article – two-more-summer-signings-anticipated – our thoughts focussed on the two player positions Nathan Jones might be looking to buy for, one of them was a goalkeeper.

But are Luton struggling to find an experienced keeper to fit the bill?

I cannot believe it will be easy trying to find somebody who fits the bill with those approached probably being wary of being third choice behind Simon Sluga and James Shea.

Which begs me to ask the question, could there be a reprieve for Isted, could he yet be offered a new deal?

Your thoughts on the above subject matter would be most appreciated in the comment facility beneath this article.
