Luton Town – Time To Review VAR Itself

I’ve mentioned it before and I’ll mention it again, but VAR continues to remain a contentious subject.

In our last two games, West Ham United (h) and Fulham (a) we’ve been the victims of dubious decisions.

On both occasions we’ve been denied, to my way of thinking, blatant penalties.

Against West Ham United (h), a blatant handball, by James Ward Prowse, in the dying embers of the game was, somehow, turned down.

Against Fulham (a), Carlton Morris was clearly fouled, but, once again, a penalty was not forthcoming.

If, on either occasion, the decision had gone or way we’d have not been defeated, if both decisions had gone our way, as I thought they should have, we’d be sitting on 2 points and we’d be sitting in 17th place in the Premier League table.

Who knows what impact those decisions could have on our future, come next May, those 2 points could be crucial, the difference between staying up and going down.

But, when it comes to VAR, our plight isn’t my only grievance, many decisions are taking far too long to be decided, sometimes 3 or 4 minutes, surely that’s not right?

I know people hark on about it is essential to get the decision right, but in some cases, as the hastily issued apologies prove this isn’t the case.

Decisions are being taken by studying lines drawn on a screen, with offside sometimes being determined by millimetres, to me it is taking the spontaneity out of the game, and I think it’s about time VAR itself was the subject of an immediate review.

But what are your feelings on this subject matter?

    All this mucking about.
Offside. If the players head is on side then it’s nothing. Never mind all this big toe, knee. elbow crap!
Time taken. Give the VAR 30 seconds max then press on & go with the Ref!

i guess if you took cheating and unsportsman like contact out of the game, you might not need VAR. i think the players actions have brought VAR into the game. i am not a fan of it, but it is necessary. until another solution is tried, just get used to it. i am sure i am not the only one who knows we should have beaten fulham. just a little bit sharper and we should have had 3 goals. the team are showing the grit and determination, we had last year.COYH.

please do not think VAR is to correct mistakes it is to keei the status quo in football to the too highlighted errors you can add handball in the lead u[ p to Fulhams goal Those decisions would all have been recersed if they had occurred at th e other end equally if Fulham and West Ham had been playing Liverpool the decisions would have neen reversed . Don’t even think they will even out over the season they won’t as the purpose of VAR is to ensure it dosen’t

I think I don’t understand football… all the pundits back VAR up immediately, Morris Rugby tackled to the ground and pundits immediately say Morris has caught the defender and VAR doesn’t even look, same with the other decisions. Maybe the problem is me and my ignorance of the game?

Classic case of “who guards the guardians!” There’s no oversight on how VAR is applied and at the moment, it isn’t being applied consistently across games. At the very least they should send the ref to the monitor if something is questionable. At the end of the day though, there’s no accounting for a shite ref!

  • Kevan Peters says:

Never ever have been in favour of VAR…. You have 3 officials in charge of the game, sometimes they get them right, and sometimes they get them wrong, it’s part of the game, and evens itself out over a season, decisions talking 3, 4, 5 minutes is killing the flow of the game.

Equally, just as easy to spot diving and blatant cheating, it’s gone on for years, easy to stamp it out, time for a reset in the game.
