What an absolute thrill to see Tom Lockyer make a return to both The Brache and Kenilworth Road, on Tuesday.
Our captain has been through a torrid spell following his much publicised cardiac problem that was there for the world to see at the Vitality Stadium, against AFC Bournemouth.
Although looking radiant, I’d imagine Tom still has a lot of rehabilitation and medical checks to complete before a return to first team football can ever be considered.
But to see our captain walk out of the tunnel and receive an ovation fit for a hero was a site to behold and I’m sure I saw a tear in his eyes when he walked around the pitch, taking the applause from all four sides of the ground, even the part occupied by the Brighton supporters.
For me, it was the perfect start to a glorious evening that saw Luton Town produce the best result of their fledgling Premier League career and I wouldn’t mind betting Tom’s appearance this week inspired his team mates to produce the kind of display that could very well keep us in the top-flight of English football.
Indeed, I think the whole situation is summed up perfectly in the following social media posting I stumbled upon:
What’s just happened almost makes you forget what happened pre kick off. But it doesn’t. That ten minute reception for Tom Lockyer was so beautiful I’ll remember it forever. Every emotion under the sun. You have to love this club. These people. That man.
