Yesterday, as I had hoped, proved to be productive on the transfer market front for Luton Town.
As well as welcoming Ryan Giles, a transfer we covered yesterday afternoon – uton-town-announce-sixth-signing-of-the-summer – the Hatters bade a temporary farewell to Fred Onyedimna.
As confirmed by the BBC
in the face of stiff competition for places in Rob Edwards Premier League squad, Fred has been allowed to drop back into the EFL Championship, to spend the season, on-loan, with Rotherham United.
Last season, Fred made 21 appearances for Luton Town as they grabbed the ultimate prize, including the last few minutes in the memorable EFL Championship Play-Off Final against Coventry, at Wembley.
Fred’s appearance count may have been more if his season had not have been affected by injuries, last season.
However, although the move is only a loan move, I have to ask the following question:
Has Fred Onyedimna Played His Last Game For Luton?
Yes!
No!
As for the supporter’s reactions to Fred’s (temporary) departure, on social media:
Good luck, Fred, I'm surentheyll look after you well there.
Thanks for every great shift you put in for the Town – not least your Play-off Final appearance, where your energy and driving runs helped us get over the line when everyone else was shattered!— Dave (@GrazVegas80) July 28, 2023
Happy it’s only a loan!

It appears the majority believe he will be back, myself, I’m not so sure!

Luton Town – Is It A Cause For Concern?
Fred showed some class in the early days but his unfortunate injury record prevented him cementing a regular spot in the team. As a result, others overtook him in the pecking order and he never achieved ‘first choice’ status. At 26, I think he still has a chance of making it as a solid Championship player if he can get fit and avoid injury, but I fear his days with Luton have probably ended. He always gave his all when selected but never totally convinced me. Nice lad and I wish him every success ongoing.
I hope this is not the end for Fred at luton , hope he has an injury free season to show what he can do . I love to see Fred on the pitch as he was so fast .COYH
Leeds last season had half a squad out on loan and has stood them quite well after drop and having to sell most of first team.
If we stay up then I don’t think Fred gets back in but if we go down will definitely see him again.
