Luton Town – Is It A Cause For Concern?

Back in 1995, a ruling by the European Union, now known as the Bossman rule, changed the face of football.

The rule meant that a player, once his contract was up, could move to another club with no transfer fee being involved.

In many ways, it changed football in this country, with clubs taking full advantage of the rule to bring in a glut of overseas players with no transfer fees involved.

There are many who suggested that the rule made it harder for British youngsters to get the chances they needed to forge a career in the profession.

But there’s no doubting the rule contributed to making the Premier League the platform what it is today.

Universally accepted as the best and most competitive league in Europe, it now brings untold riches to those clubs fortunate enough to be playing in it.

But are times changing, will it soon be rivaled by another league?

This close season has seen numerous stars, more than normal, opt to leave our shores for the riches of Saudia Arabia, the latest being the Liverpool midfielder, Jordan Henderson.

Indeed, as my mates have pointed out to me, Chelsea seem to be able to send many of their unwanted imports down the Saudi route, as they feel fit.

Could, what started as a trickle, soon become a flood?

The fortunes on offer make me wince, a weeks’ salary being more than the common man can earn in a decade.

Now I doubt any of those who have joined the Saudi Arabian venture have a bank balance that they wince at when they do a bank balance check at their local ATM, so what drives them east?

Is there something I’m missing, or is it just plain monetary greed?

I’d be grateful if you could share your thoughts on the above.

Could the drizzle fast become a flood?

Is the Premier League facing its first real rival?

Is the game becoming, for many, just too money orientated?
