Yesterday, with news relating to our fine club scarce, I opted to deploy what I term a stocking filler.
I wasn’t sure how the article – it-is-all-in-a-place-name – would be received.
I had this fear that it would be ridiculed but, thankfully, that proved to be far from the case.
Instead, it proved surprisingly popular and my quest for the readership to suggest other players that fitted the criteria was a success.
Indeed, so many names were provided, and with a little poetic licence with one or two position, I’ve been able to produce a second XI (plus substitute):
Goalkeeper – Steve Sutton
Defender – Alan Kimble
Defender – Jude Stirling
Defender – Sydney Owen
Defender – Ken Barton
Midfield – Brian Whitby
Midfield – Brian Horton
Midfield – Danny Clapton
Forward – Ian Buxton
Forward – Laurie Sheffield
Forward – Bob Morton
Substitute – Stuart Fleetwood
In fact such was the quantity of names supplied, the following three players can consider themselves unlucky not to get a place in the XI or on the bench.
Andy Harrow
Stuart Douglas
Gareth Salisbury
You never know, this quirky idea or abstract XI’s might just become more than a stocking filler during quiet times.
Any more for any more?
